Gegevensintegriteit waarborgt dat informatie betrouwbaar blijft vanaf creatie tot verwerking, opslag, overdracht en verwijdering.
Aantasting van gegevensintegriteit kan het gevolg zijn van menselijke fouten, systeemstoringen, kwaadwillige handelingen of onvoldoende beheersmaatregelen.
